To pretend or not to pretend/
that is the question/
the only choice worth making/
brave heroes are not the ones living fearlessly anymore/
they have homes & jobs/
they are passionate about a cause/but not too much/
’cause they have mouths to feed and a mortgage to repay.
It’s a generational thing they say/
a product of our parents’ sins/
Ma’s emotional burdens & Dad’s outrageous whims/
all I know is my 14 years old soul/
tied to a totem pole/
a bag full of worries and minds too dull/
in pursuit of a fanciful ideal/
not our own.
