It’s a generational thing

To pretend or not to pretend/

that is the question/

the only choice worth making/

brave heroes are not the ones living fearlessly anymore/

they have homes & jobs/

they are passionate about a cause/but not too much/

’cause they have mouths to feed and a mortgage to repay.

It’s a generational thing they say/

a product of our parents’ sins/

Ma’s emotional burdens & Dad’s outrageous whims/

all I know is my 14 years old soul/

tied to a totem pole/

a bag full of worries and minds too dull/

in pursuit of a fanciful ideal/

not our own.
