These nightmares so earnestly beholden

These nightmares so earnestly beholden

are beholden to our urbane civility.

They are best viewed through our dirty kitchen

windows. Sat on chairs, benches and plush ottomans,

they are often seen holding gardening

shears, while our lawns turns into wastelands.

I seldom wander free or outside of myself

while the rest of us are yet to discern

what horrors befall while we sleep noiselessly?

We who become roots & trees, red dead of slaughtered meat,

living and breathing sins cannibalizing

calcified turfs while

immortal springs offer up putrid sludge

albeit at a handsome discount.

These nightmares so earnestly beholden

are silver backed & smooth, almost

pensive. Pass them by and you may see

a shadow or a prayer, whichever

you truly deserve.

These nightmares so earnestly beholden

are beholden to me, beholden to you.
