My father in inanimate things

A crumpled cotton shirt, folded not ironed

A cheap after shave, Old Spice

a toothbrush, with its bristels torn apart

books on finance and political economy

a nasal pump for sinusitis

an old Samsonite briefcase

a new Desktop

an old leather chair, with a broken adjustment lever

some visiting cards, with ball point pen doodles

some receipts, some bills, and red, black, blue diaries

my father

is all these things and greater

things that can not be reduced

to the confines of a single room.
