A happy new year

It’s that time of the year again

when the sombre contemplation of winter

will be disturbed by drunk celebrities

dancing on TVs

and in the streets somewhere far away

tying up loose ends

stitching up old wounds

learning once again to like what they hate

so much

about themselves and

about who they are

our friends will make resolutions

and dupe themselves into believing

that the change of a day could suddenly mark

the beginning of excitement

in their dull lives

but it’s that time of the year again

when the gullible need comforting

comfort that all is going to be well

at the end of a shitty year

comfort that they are not going to be alone

under the mistletoe

or by March next year

I would scoff at the deluded masses

but then

I am a poet.
