Eulogy-Paperhouse

the fire came sooner than I expected

hastily leaping into the fray

before we even had time to wake up

and brush our teeth

we climbed through the snow

to reach the burning cottage

it was the dining room

with books and shadows

shadows of a paper house

and its alien inhabitants

the fire consumed the troglodyte

the joker, the lover, the mountain girl,

the wise yogi, the warm foodie

the pretentious,the poetic,

the beautiful, the archaic,

the wanderers and the girl

who asked too many questions

all burnt to a crisp

charred now that once was laughter

and fresh apples

the burning wood

a collective heart

now lost to time and fire

tick and tock

mocking

the clock chimed

from the ashen remains

of a brighter future

and fire forged friendships.
