Small conveniences

There is a photograph of a woman

on the wall to my left, I wonder

who put it there

was it really a great work of art

or just a matter of

small conveniences

like processed meat and thermal power

there is also the sound of water gushing

in the backyard

where women wash clothes, utensils

and themselves

often, before the morning light

another small convenience

like a machine gun

i hear an old man snoring

wheezing, pleading

asking an ominous guest

to postpone his ominous visit

for the moment,

he is sleeping in the barn

a matter of small convenience yet again

like graveyards, and red lights.
